The Taoyuan Airport MRT runs from A1 Taipei Main Station to A22 Laojie River Station and serves passengers traveling to and from Taoyuan International Airport. Taoyuan Metro’s ticket overview lists EasyCard and iPASS among the stored-value cards available, and its stored-value card page lists regular cards of both types as open to the general public.
Adding value before you ride
At Taoyuan Metro stations, you can add value to a regular EasyCard or iPASS in two places, and the rules are the same for both cards:
- Card Vending and Add Value Machines: add value in multiples of NT$100, starting at NT$100.
- Station Information Counters: add any amount. You are not limited to NT$100 or its multiples.
Advice: if you want an exact or small top-up, the Information Counter is the place to ask for it.
Tapping at entry and exit
Taoyuan Metro says each passenger should tap only one ticket card on the ticket sensing area when entering and when exiting. Do not use multiple cards at the same time.
Advice: if you carry both an EasyCard and an iPASS, or keep other cards in the same wallet or phone case, pull out the one you intend to use and tap it alone.
When the balance is too low at the exit
If you reach the exit without enough stored value to pay the fare, Taoyuan Metro directs you to the station Information Counter. There you have two choices. You can add value to the card: any amount, even just the shortfall. Or you can pay the fare for the entire trip in cash.
Advice: if you are not sure how much you are short, ask the staff. Keeping some cash on hand also gives you the whole-trip cash option at the Information Counter.
Advice: if you are not sure your card has enough for the ride, add value at a machine before you enter, so you are not relying on the Information Counter at the exit.
Checking recent transactions
At stations, the Remaining Value Checking Terminal lets you check your six most recent transactions. For older transactions, ask at a Station Information Counter.
Advice: if a charge looks wrong, check the terminal soon after the trip, since only the six latest transactions appear there.
