Short answer

Of the Monday federal holidays the US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) lists from September 29, 2026 through 2027, only January 18 and October 11, 2027 are on the museum's Special Monday Opening Days list. Check the museum's hours page for your date shortly before you go.

Exhibition Hall I is open Tuesday to Sunday 09:00-17:00, and on a Monday only if the date is on the list of Special Monday Opening Days on the museum’s hours page.

Tickets

Ticket sales and ticket exchange run from 09:00 to 16:30, so buy or exchange your ticket by 16:30. The Exhibition Hall I listing gives no separate last-entry time for visitors who already hold a valid ticket.

The Exhibition Hall I listing gives ticket times only with its Tuesday-to-Sunday hours, none for listed Mondays. To be safe, buy your ticket by 16:30 on a listed Monday as well, and earlier if the page shows shorter hours for your date.

Special Monday Opening Days

On or after September 29, 2026: October 26, November 9 and December 7.

The 2027 list has 19 dates:

  • January 18
  • February 1, 8 and 22
  • March 1
  • April 5 and 19
  • May 3 and 17
  • June 21
  • July 19
  • August 23
  • September 20 and 27
  • October 11, 18 and 25
  • November 15
  • December 6

None of the upcoming listed Mondays shows its own hours; the only dated hours in the Special Monday lists are for a past date, February 16, 2026 (9:00-16:00). Check the page for a note beside your date shortly before you go.

Monday US federal holidays through 2027

This table covers the Monday holidays on the US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) federal holidays page from September 29, 2026 through 2027, matched against the museum’s list.

Federal holiday Date On the museum’s list?
Columbus Day Monday, October 12, 2026 Not listed
Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. Monday, January 18, 2027 Listed Special Monday Opening Day
Washington’s Birthday Monday, February 15, 2027 Not listed
Memorial Day Monday, May 31, 2027 Not listed
Independence Day Monday, July 5, 2027 Not listed
Labor Day Monday, September 6, 2027 Not listed
Columbus Day Monday, October 11, 2027 Listed Special Monday Opening Day

OPM footnotes July 5 because, when a holiday falls on a Sunday, most federal employees get the following Monday as the holiday for pay and leave purposes. These are federal holidays on OPM’s schedule, not every reader’s day off.

Gardens on an unlisted Monday

Zhishan Garden (free admission) follows Exhibition Hall I’s opening hours, so it is closed on unlisted Mondays. The page also lists Zhide Garden as “Open all year round” with free admission, and its listing gives no clock hours. Of the areas covered here, it is the only one whose listing is not tied to Exhibition Hall I’s hours.

The Children’s Gallery, on B1 of Exhibition Hall I, has free admission; the museum describes it as suitable for adults and children of all ages. Children younger than 10 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Because it follows Exhibition Hall I’s opening hours, it is open on listed Mondays and not on unlisted ones.

Getting there

From Exit 1 of Shilin Station (R16), walk about 1-2 minutes to the bus stops on Zhongzheng Rd., then take bus R30 (紅30), 815, 304, 300, 255, S19 (小19), S18 (小18) or M1 (市民小巴1) to the National Palace Museum, about 15 minutes by bus. Details are on the museum’s public transportation page.
